Gary In the Morning, a local radio personality in my hometown of Stroudsburg PA was fired from his job today for facetiously using the same phrase that got Imus in so much trouble.

“The Phrase that pays” was a long running on-air game of his. And guess what this weeks phrase was?

Yup. “I’m a Nappy Headed something-or-other.” (I don’t want to get fired)

Gary WAS the voice of the Pocono’s for 17 years and contributed his free time to many local charities. But he’s no Imus. So he gets fired. Incidentally, WSBG’s Sister station WVPO will resume broadcasting the syndicated “Imus in the morning ” show when Imus’ suspension is complete.

Imus has found himself in a whole lot of trouble latley for some “racist” remarks he made on his morning show about Rutgers women’s basketball team. Those remarks earned him a two week suspension and got him a guest spot on Al Sharpton’s radio show.

I heard clips of the discussion between the two of them and it was about a comfortable as a root canal.

The only person that I heard on the clips that had any sense of a rational thought was [suprisingly] a call in from Bill Maher.

He talked about how everyone in America deserves one moment of discomfort before the world moves on. Was Imus’ comments discusting? Yes. Was it a poor attempt a humor? Yes. Was it racist? Maybe. He will have two weeks off to live in his own personal hell of what he said. He said he was sorry. Irreversable damage has been done to his image. And the world should move on. If you were offended by his remarks, you now know that you no longer have to listen to him. Turn the dial.

I in no way condone what he said. But hearing Al Sharpton berate Don Imus for an hour, as if he has never done anything wrong in the past is ridiculous. Sharpton called up a long history of comments Imus made on the air that could be taken out of contex as racist, misogynous, or even homophobic. Sharpton has done this with alot of guests that come on the show to kiss his ass. But do any of them call his past into question? Nope. But hey, we all make mistakes.

Radio Sucks

This morning I found the roof antenna for my Sirius Radio in 2 pieces. With this necessary part broken, the radio does not function. I’ve ordered a replacement antenna for the caravan and the Honda, (i suspect that moving the antenna from one car to another several times a month lead to it’s demise) but until the new one arrives I am left to listen to regular old-fashioned radio on my daily commute.

I feel like I am living in the dark ages. I can’t wait for my new antenna to come. Terrestrial radio, it’s commercials, and the FCC all suck.

If you have not yet taken the leap to Satellite Radio (be it Sirius or XM, they will soo be the same anyway) I recommend you do so. Next to broadband, It is the best $12.95 a month I spend.
